Who are LoCO2 Energy LTD?
LoCO2 Energy is an green electricity supply company that has been active in the renewable energy sector for over 10 years. We own, run and operate nine hydropower stations in the UK and have two more sites currently in development. Our new venture into retail electricity is driven by our desire to provide affordable, renewable and low-carbon electricity to businesses and consumers within our local and regional communities.
LoCO2 Energy are a relatively new player in the electricity supply market but we are regulated in exactly the same way as the 'Big 6' and other electricity suppliers.
Where does the electricity that you supply come from?
As with every electricity supplier in the UK, our electricity is generated by power stations and then flows into the National Transmission Network (National Grid). Distribution companies transport the electricity along a network of cables and towers throughout the country to your home or business. Suppliers like us then sell the electricity to customers.
Other then the 'Big 6' suppliers, LoCO2 is one of only a few smaller companies who actually generate their own renewable electricity and supply to customers through our own hydropower sites.
We also buy renewable energy and low-carbon electricity from microgenerators (see our page about Feed-in tariffs) and through private arrangements with larger generators.
How can I tell that the electricity you supply is renewable or low carbon?
LoCO2 Energy we only buy electricity that is sourced from renewable generators, such as hydro, wind, solar and technologies using agricultural wastes and vegetable oil, as well as natural gas.
How easy is it to switch to LoCO2 Energy?
Switching to LoCO2 Energy is straightforward and hassle-free. All you need to do is complete and sign our electricity supply contract and we will take care of the rest.
Do you offer a range of tariffs?
Yes, we offer a choice of three tariff plans: Planet, Pocket+ or Pocket. Take a look at Our Tariffs for more details about the benefits of each option.
Do I need to let my current supplier know if I decide to switch?
So, we can do that for you.
Should I cancel my direct debit with my current supplier?
No, not until your final bill with your current supplier has been paid. You should make sure that your final bill is based on the same reading that we open your LoCO2 Energy account with, i.e. your start reading.
If I am in arrears with my current supplier, can I still switch?
t is unlikely your current supplier will let you switch until you have finalised your account and paid any outstanding charges.
What is an electricity supply number or MPAN?
An electricity supply number or MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is a unique 21-digit number assigned to all residential and commercial properties. You will find it on your electricity bill.
Can I have a quarterly bill?
Yes. Direct Debits are paid from your bank account every month but we still send you a bill every quarter to let you know how much electricity you have used and as a statement of your account. Billing you on a quarterly basis enables us to keep our administration costs to a minimum.
How are my monthly direct debit payments calculated?
There has been a lot of bad press about electricity suppliers setting monthly direct debits too high. We will base your direct debit payment amount on the most accurate information that we have about your electricity usage over the previous year. If actual meter readings are not available, we can estimate your future electricity usage by asking you a few simple questions about your property and the number of appliances you use. We then divide this amount into equal monthly payments, taking into account that you would normally expect to build up a credit in the summer months which is used to pay for the increased amount of electricity you will use during the winter.
By taking accurate meter readings we can keep track of your actual consumption levels, which enables us to accurately review your direct debit amount. You can help us to do this by sending us your actual meter readings on a regular basis.
What if I change my mind about switching?
We hope you don’t! But if you do, we have a five-day cooling off period so please call us to tell us not to switch your supply. If you change your mind once you have switched, you can contact us to cancel your contract after 28-days.
If you’re a business customer, you do not have a cooling off period and so you’ll need to stay with us for the length of the contract you’ve agreed (normally 12 months). During your renewal period, we’ll give you the opportunity to discuss prices and cancel your contract with us.
What if I move house?
Please inform us two working days prior to your move. If you can, call us on 0845 074 3601 on the day you move with your final meter reading from the property. If you are unable to call on the day of your move, make a note of the reading and call us as soon as you can.
