Did you know.....?
- Leaving a PC monitor on overnight wastes enough energy to microwave six dinners.
- A typical window left open overnight in winter will waste enough energy to drive a small car over 35 miles.
- Switching off non-essential appliances in an average sized home overnight saves enough energy to run a small car for 100 miles.
If you are concerned about your carbon footprint and would like to reduce it, here are some simple changes you can make to help tackle climate change:
- Take the time to think about your home and learn where energy is being wasted. Focus on the areas where savings can be made, such as heating, lighting and any other appliance that is left on when it is not in use.
- Check your progress by tracking your consumption levels on your electricity bills or statements. Review progress, no matter how small. Saving energy requires a continuous effort and there’s always room for improvement!
- Switching off lights in rooms which are not being used could cut your lighting costs by as much as 15%.
- Make the most of natural daylight by adjusting your blinds and curtains accordingly.
- Replace all light bulbs with energy efficiency recommended bulbs, which will use around a quarter of the electricity and last up to 12 times longer!
- Only boil as much water as you plan to use.
