Government policy for renewable energy and energy efficiency

The British Coalition government has promised to be the greenest government ever.

It's a bold promise, and one released during the heady days of the May 2010 election, but what policies, rules and regulations are emerging our of government?

Over the coming months, LoCO2 Energy will be watching what comes out of Number 10, the Department of Energy and Climate Change; the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; and the Treasury and breaking down what this means for UK consumers and businesses.

We'll be looking at everything to do with renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability. So far, you can read about:

  • Feed-in Tariffs: the scheme to encourage microgeneration of renewable electricity through the payment of tariffs for every unit of electricity produced.

  •  The Green Deal: A scheme to encourage the installation of energy saving measures (like insulation) in British homes.

  • Smart meters: Coming to all our homes between 2014 and 2019. Read how smart meters will change the way we monitor and use energy and even save us money on our bills.
